For the 12th year in a row, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote is the wealthiest person in Africa. Dangote made his wealth from cement, sugar, and self-made according to Forbes.

According to Statista, Dangote started his company in 1981, through Dangote Group one of the largest conglomerates in the world.

Globally in 2021, Dangote was listed as number 191, the wealthiest person in the world according to Statista.

In total, Forbes list includes 18 billionaires in Africa, all business people.

The list will come as a shock to many Kenyans since it does not feature any high-profile politicians who are known to hand out cash in harambees.

South Africa and Egypt dominate the list with 5 billionaires each on the list, while Nigeria has 3 billionaires according to Forbes. Tanzania and Zimbabwe each have one of the nationals on the list.
