Mark your calendars. It’s a countdown to LA Marathon 2022, and there are only 5 days to go.
On March 20, 2022, Kenyans will converge in the City of Los Angeles, California, to cheer Kenyan marathons stars and thousands of marathoners participating for charity and fun.
The event is hosted by The McCourt Foundation (TMF) for a great cause. TMF is an organization dedicated to using health and fitness events to enhance the lives of patients and families affected by health challenges.
“TMF is an organization whose mission is to empower individuals and communities to build a healthier world and make a difference. We do this by supporting neurology research, hosting educational forums, and using our events as a platform to raise funds for charity partners,” a statement on their website read.
The LA Marathon is a way for the foundation to raise funds to pay for neurology research and host educational forums. They have partnered with sports gear maker, ASICS, to make it happen.
More than 10,000 people, from all walks of life including elite marathoners, are expected to participate.
Starting at Dodger Stadium, the race would go through 21 landmarks in LA, including China Town Dragon Gate, the magnificent Echo Park Lake, Cathedral of our Lady of Angels, and the glitzy Rodeo Drive, among others, before ending at Century City area.
The 2022 marathon promises to be special, especially coming from the pandemic-induced lockdowns. It will be an excellent opportunity to see world-class athletes and enjoy the outdoors.
The day’s weather forecast shows clear skies, around 66 degrees during the day. So it’s advisable to wear warm clothing or have them handy.
Organizers have given Kenyans their special area to line up and cheer our runners. The Magical Mile area is on the 20th, and the 21st mile stretch of the 25-mile race is an opportunity for Kenyans to wave the Jamnhuri flag and show Kenyan pride.
The Kenyan Magical Mile will be located between Sepulveda Blvd, Ohio, and Wilshire Blvd.
James Omosa, Charge d’affaires at the Kenyan consulate in Los Angeles, encouraged Kenyans to come out in large numbers and make it a family event and also support the charity.
Names of the athletes expected to compete are yet to be released. We will update you as soon as we receive the information.
Kenya’s John Korir is the men’s defending champion, and Natasha Cockram from Wales is the women’s defending champion.
Magical Kenya and the Kenyan Consulate in LA are collaborating in making the event a memorable occasion for Kenyans.
